L’Ambassade des Etats-Unis à Cotonou a eu l’honneur d’accueillir Gina Prince-Bythewood, la réalisatrice du film « The Woman King », et Reggie Rock Bythewood, réalisateur et producteur polyvalent, pour une visite au Bénin axée sur l’autonomisation des femmes dans les arts et l’exploration des liens culturels entre la diaspora africaine en Amérique et au Bénin.

L’Ambassade des États-Unis à Cotonou a remis un prix spécial à Madame Prince-Bythewood pour célébrer sa carrière cinématographique et pour avoir fait entendre la voix des femmes à travers son art.
« En racontant l’histoire poignante des femmes guerrières du Dahomey (l’actuel Bénin) et en partageant la force, la beauté et la complexité de notre histoire africaine, mon souhait était que ‘The Woman King’ nous rapproche davantage de nos racines », a déclaré Prince-Bythewood. « J’ai été profondément touchée par le merveilleux peuple du Bénin, et j’espère que le film incitera les réalisateurs à s’intéresser à d’autres histoires du Continent ».
