Ce jeudi 12 novembre 2020, l’ancien Président ghanéen John Jerry Rawlings s’est éteint à l’âge de 73 ans.
Grand homme d’Etat, panafricain rompu et révolutionnaire dans l’âme J.J. Rawlings surnommé le « Che Africain » a marqué de façon significative l’histoire de son pays par sa contribution à son développement. Il n’a jamais quitté les mémoires de ses compatriotes et de l’Afrique en général malgré son retrait de la vie politique.
À 32 ans, il s’est révélé déjà; peu connu du grand public, jeune capitaine de l’armée de l’air ghanéenne il bénéficiait d’une grande renommée au sein de ses camarades d’arme. À cette époque, il était membre du Mouvement pour une Afrique Libre, créé clandestinement par des officiers militaires souhaitant unifier le continent par une série de coups d’Etat.
Il prendra le pouvoir en 1981 à la suite d’un autre coup d’Etat et règnera jusqu’en 1992 où à la suite d’élections démocratiques il sera élu et réélu 4ans plus tard avant de céder le pouvoir en application de la constitution qui n’autorise que deux mandats successifs.
Après lui, le Ghana a connu des transitions politiques apaisées. Les années s’écoulent mais Rawlings reste très populaire au sein de sa population.
Aujourd’hui la disparition de cette icône doit interpeller tout citoyen africain sur la suite de la mission que ce patriote s’est assigné pour notre continent; plus particulièrement nous jeunes acteurs politiques d’aujourd’hui nous devons puiser de l’expérience de ces ainés dans leur exaltant parcours pour nourrir nos ambitions pour un meilleur avenir de nos peuples. Les coups d’Etat étant proscrits aujourd’hui, la jeunesse peut toujours provoquer des révolutions pacifiques afin qu’aux détours d’alternatives démocratiques elle puisse installer des femmes et des hommes porteurs de valeurs pour le développement réel de notre continent. Pour y arriver cette jeunesse est condamnée à s’unir et à se débarrasser des contre valeurs et autres maux qui la minent que nous connaissons tous: l’égocentrisme, la jalousie maladive en un mot la béninoiserie.
