La situation économique et financière des pays de la sous-région ouest africaine a été le sujet de discussion entre le chef de l’Etat béninois Patrice talon et le Gouverneur de la Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO), Monsieur Jean-Claude Kassi BROU, en visite à Cotonou.
Brou a été reçu lundi 22 mai 2023 au palais de la Marina par Patrice Talon où il a été question pour le patron de la BCEAO, de faire un point de l’évolution de la situation économique, monétaire et financière de la zone d’action monétaire de la Banque centrale, des progrès réalisés par le Bénin dans plusieurs domaines en particulier la maîtrise de l’inflation ainsi que les perspectives au niveau régional, a rapporté la présidence du Bénin.
« Notre rencontre avec le Président de la République a été une occasion pour nous de faire un tour d’horizon de toute l’actualité financière et monétaire dans la sous-région. C’était également l’occasion pour nous de saluer les progrès qui ont été réalisés au Bénin en particulier puisque nous avons noté que la croissance est restée très soutenue, les prévisions de 2023 sont très satisfaisantes les performances en matière d’inflation notamment», a indiqué Brou exprimant sa satisfaction du travail de l’Etat béninois.
L’économiste poursuit en soutenant également que « dans l’Union le Bénin a la meilleure inflation, la performance d’inflation est à un taux relativement faible, et donc nous avons vraiment salué les efforts qui ont été faits par l’État béninois pour lutter contre la hausse des prix d’une manière générale ».
En ce qui concerne la croissance économique et la stabilité monétaire dans la Zone UEMOA, le chef de la BCEAO a expliqué qu’avec Patrice Talon « … nous restons très attentifs au niveau de la Banque centrale à l’évolution de la situation et nos actions en matière d’intervention sur le marché monétaire justement tient compte de la nécessité de faire baisser progressivement le taux d’inflation vers notre cible, qui est de 3%, et donc nous pensons que nous sommes dans la bonne dynamique. Nous restons attentifs à cette évolution ».
